Introducing Fringe Editions

Since the beginning of this year, 2026, I have been involved in writing and coordinating the website Fringe Editions, which Maastricht University Professor Anna Harris initiated. Fringe Editions is the platform that showcases creative research and practices that sprout from the edges of medical education. This introductory quote on the website I adore so much and I think is explanatory of what FE is about:

Out-of-the-box thinkers, wildcards, foragers of ideas, hybrid researchers, either by choice or by chance, you are invited on an adventure to wander and wonder on the Fringes of the conventional, and to explore your own creative possibilities for research and teaching in the healthcare professions.

What I appreciate about the project is that it takes a reflexive, almost archival approach: the idea, workshop, educational program, etc. does not need to have taken place last month to be featured on the website. Instead, it is a source of knowledge and resources that is built at a slower pace, often with an aim to ‘recycle,’ go back and see what is already out there.

During my time at Fringe Editions, I conducted multiple interviews and wrote an art event report. Here is a small curation:

** In concersation with Annie Zeng on playing with clinical jargon

** Reflections on the MiniMedArt conference

** Film as a research method with Paul Craddock

** Visit to the Kaunas Science Centre

** Eating disorders in young people with Ulrike Schmidt

** Inside the Atlas Of Queer Anatomy with Kuang-Yi Ku

And more to come!…
